I think that this could be a great initiative, but what is the point of recruiting serving personnel when they can’t play an active role in the party? For example, Queen’s Regulations for the Royal Navy specifically prohibits members of the navy from actively participating in any.political organisation. Is Labour going to campaign.to have this changed?
Dear Steven,
The Queens Regulations are clear and correct, which is why they are on the Labour friends of the Forces website. Service personnel can be registered members and supporters but not activists. We will not be campaigning to change this. We do believe the people in the Forces should be able to express their political views, within the rules, without compromising their position or their duties. Labour friends of the Forces aims to allow those serving who want to be in touch with the Labour movement to be able to do so, as well as raising awareness across the defence community that there are many within the Labour movement who want to campaign for greater support for service personnel. Many thanks for your comment.
