Ministers must urgently tell us whether there has been a change to the system resulting from defence cuts – Jim Murphy

Jim Murphy MP, Labour’s Shadow Defence Secretary, commenting on reports that the Service Complaints Commissioner’s annual report was slipped out by the Government on Budget day, said:

“Last year British troops were sacked by email while in Afghanistan and this only adds to the list of questions over how the Government handles the most sensitive of issues.

“Ministers must urgently tell us whether there has been a change to the system resulting from defence cuts.

“Comments by the Service Complaints Commissioner are an extraordinary indictment of the Government’s failures to match words with action on the military covenant.”
