Kevan Jones MP, Labour’s Shadow Armed Forces Minister, responding to the publication of the Ministry of Defence’s report into the training of Libyan soldiers in UK barracks, said:
“This damning report catalogues the shocking failures at the heart of the Libyan Personnel training programme on David Cameron’s watch.
“The fact that communities and local authorities were kept in the dark about these serious incidents is deeply worrying and totally unacceptable. The public will want to know that Ministers have learnt the lessons of this episode, and that real steps are being taken to prevent this from reoccurring.
“We also need to know whether the Government will commit to publishing the full report once the legal restraints have been removed.
“Defence Ministers should urgently meet with the leaders of relevant local authorities to brief them on this matter so that they can be assured about questions regarding the independence of the investigation.”
